What if I refuse to comply with the new Uniform Addressing ordinance?
If you refuse to change your address, you’ll be endangering yourself and anyone at that address. All emergency services — as well as delivery drivers and utility companies — will use the new address. If you use the old address in an emergency, you’ll run the risk of emergency services being delayed or having difficulty finding you. (911 will maintain a cross-reference chart for both the old and new addresses in their database for a period of time.) If you refuse to change your address, you’ll be in violation of the Uniform Addressing ordinance and enforcement actions will be taken. We know there will be some cases where we’ll need to have some flexibility on ordinance specifics, and we’re working with towns and individual sites to make these accommodations.
